RENK and PARTZSCH Boost Defense-Grade Electric Machine Production for Submarines
RENK and PARTZSCH team up to boost military-grade electric machines; first project: generator for diesel-electric submarines supporting stealth propulsion.

RENK Magnet-Motor GmbH and PARTZSCH Group have entered a long-term collaboration to develop and produce electric machines with outputs of up to 4 megawatts, targeting both military and civilian sectors. The partnership, formalized in a new framework agreement, aims to streamline production processes by combining RENK’s engineering expertise with PARTZSCH’s manufacturing capacity.
The first joint project is already underway: a generator for diesel engines used in submarines. The prototype is set to hit the test rig at RENK’s Augsburg facility by the end of the year. Speed and scalability are at the heart of the deal, with both companies citing shorter lead times and faster entry into series production as major benefits.
Military Applications: Powering Propulsion Where It Counts
RENK’s electric machines, particularly those developed by RENK Magnet-Motor, are a key component in several high-end defense systems—most notably in naval propulsion. Their technology is used in diesel-electric submarines, where generators like the one now being co-developed with PARTZSCH play a critical role in silent propulsion, battery charging, and energy management systems.
Beyond submarines, RENK’s electric drive systems are also deployed in military surface vessels and hybrid powertrains for tracked and wheeled armored vehicles. These machines are built to meet rigorous defense standards for shock resistance, electromagnetic compatibility, and continuous operation under extreme conditions.
With the ability to deliver up to 4 MW of power, the machines serve both main propulsion systems and auxiliary applications in military fleets, supporting missions where stealth, durability, and high performance are non-negotiable.
“The collaboration with PARTZSCH allows us to significantly speed up our production processes,” said Sebastian Döring, Managing Director of RENK Magnet-Motor GmbH.
Christian Partzsch, Managing Director of the PARTZSCH Group, added: “We’re combining our production power with RENK’s technical edge—an ideal match for delivering complex machines at scale.”
The move is considered a strategic expansion for RENK, which continues to bolster its capabilities in the face of increasing demand for advanced electric drive systems—above sea level and below.
