Diehl Defence Expands German Missile Production Capabilities
The expansion, part of a larger €800 million investment plan across Diehl’s operations, will involve the construction of up to 15 new buildings in the coming years. The initial phase includes production facilities and infrastructure, including 100 new jobs to become a key hub for defense operations.
Diehl Defence has officially broken ground on a major expansion of its facility in Nonnweiler, Saarland. The project, which includes the construction of two buildings for missile production and a technical center for energy supply, reflects the company’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities. The Nonnweiler site encompasses the Maasberg and Mariahütte facilities, both of which will benefit from this extensive investment.
Strategic Expansion for Increased Capacity
The expansion, part of a larger €800 million investment plan across Diehl’s operations, will involve the construction of up to 15 new buildings in the coming years. The initial phase includes production facilities and infrastructure to support energy demands. This growth will also create over 100 new jobs at the Nonnweiler site, enhancing its role as a key hub for the company’s defense operations.
Thomas Bodenmiller, CFO of Diehl Defence, emphasized the project’s significance:
“With today’s groundbreaking, Diehl Defence begins implementing its growth forecasts at the Nonnweiler site in Saarland, aligning with similar initiatives across all our locations. The increased capacity will strengthen the defense capabilities of Germany and our allied nations.”
Close Collaboration with Local Authorities
The rapid approval and launch of the project were made possible through close cooperation between Diehl Defence, the Saarland Office for Environment and Occupational Safety, and the regional forestry authority. Jürgen Barke, Saarland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs, highlighted the effective partnership that enabled the project to move forward seamlessly.
Strengthening Germany’s Defense Sector
Diehl Defence’s investment aligns with the broader goal of enhancing Germany’s military readiness and export capabilities. The expanded Nonnweiler facility will focus on the production of guided missiles, critical for both national defense and international partnerships.
As Germany ramps up its defense spending and manufacturing capacity, this project positions Diehl Defence as a vital contributor to the country’s strategic and industrial goals.
